The UK has the highest rates of obesity of any country in Europe with the West Midlands being one of the worse areas in the UK, according to government statistics.
But the solution is on our hands by making less fattening meals.
To help us cook without piling on the pounds Warwick University and Lasan Indian restaurant in Birmingham have teamed up to produce a recipe book of healthier Asian dishes.
This episode of the ideasforlife.tv series Battling Obesity looks at how curries can be made less fattening as Lasan development chef Aktar Islam gives a master class in how to prepare one of the meals from the recipe book.
