Pioneering heart treatment

A potential breakthrough in treatment for patients who have suffered chronic heart disease has been discovered by researchers at Birmingham University.

Researchers at the university's medical school have conducted a trial giving patients who have suffered heart failure the drug Perhexiline, which has previously been used for the treatment of angina.

Results show that the drug has improved the heart efficiency in patients and increased their quality of life.

The drug could help to prolong the lives of heart disease patients.
