The production of eyes in the lab has moved a step closer after researchers at Warwick University discovered what seems to be the signal that switches on eye development.
They have identified an ectoenzyme that when used in the lab produced additional ectopic eyes on tadpoles.
The work opens the possibility of producing eyes in the laboratory.
