Gender issue in heart disease diagnosis

Research by Warwick Medical School shows that a doctor's gender may hinder early diagnosis of heart disease in women.

A study showed that the assessment of a patient with symptoms of coronary heart disease differed depending on whether the family doctor was a man or a woman.

It also found that the difference was greater when assessing female patients.

The findings could be used to improve the diagnosis of heart disease among GPs.
