Lack of sleep linked to fatal illness

Researchers at Warwick have discovered there is a link between a lack of sleep and heart disease.

They found that people who had on average less the five hours of sleep a night had a higher incidence of cardio vascular disease than people who slept for longer. And women were more at risk than men, the research found.

But they also found that getting too much sleep also increased risk, with people having more than nine hours of sleep a night more likely to die of non cardio vascular disease.

The research showed that the risks were reduced for people getting between six and eight hours of sleep a night.
