Researchers at Warwick University are looking at how to help plants cope with one of the effects of climate change by using water more efficiently.
They are trying to identify the genes in vegetable crops which control water use and also root growth so plants can find more water.
The project could mean plants are able to survive in the more arid conditions caused by climate change and use less water, which is set become an increasingly scarce resource as global temperatures rise.
